She major in biochemistry at Los Angeles City College. As a student there, she said, “she relieved stress by going to nightclubs for ladies’ night.” In 1988, was noticed by Spike Lee at the dance club Funky Reggae; he hired Perez for the first and breakthrough role in Do the Right Thing. Among many honors, she was nominated for three Emmy Awards and an Academy Award for her excellent contribution to the entertainment industry. She has performed in stage plays on Broadway like Fish in the Dark, The Ritz. In addition, she was a co-host talk show The View on ABC during the series’ 18th season.
