Yvette Marie Stevens is an American musician, singer, and songwriter, better known by her stage name Chaka Khan. On 23 March 1953, she was born in Chicago, Illinois. She signed with ABC Records and released their eponymous debut album in 1973. She joined a band, Rufus, and they collaboratively released a single, Tell Me Something Good, which became the group’s breakthrough hit and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974; later, the group won their first Grammy Award. The funk band Rufus released another single, You Got the Love, which listed number 1 on the R&B chart. The group’s second studio album, Rags to Rufus, achieved gold, selling over a million copies. Rufus released six platinum-selling albums from 1974 to 1979 and a total of twelfth studio albums so far. In 2021, she joined Youtuber and performer Todrick Hall on the song “Fabulosity” on his album Femuline. On 19 May 2011, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame star plaque on a section of Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
